Weir Equation

At water depths less than 4 inches an inlet grate acts as a weir to incoming flow and requires different analysis to determine flow capacity. The weir equation used is listed below and it is used to determine how much water flows to the grate:

Q = 3.33L(H)3/2

Q = flow (ft³/s)
L = perimeter of grate where flow is present (ft)
H = depth of water above grate (ft)
