Competitor's Working Conditions: Manufacturing in India

Thomas Teske, General Manager of East Jordan Iron Works, was recently interviewed by The Detroit News regarding a competitor's working conditions in India.
Another article published in the New York Times highlighted castings that were forged barefoot in India.
According to the Detroit News article, "On display for all to see was the dark side of global trade, the Abu Ghraib of heavy manufacturing. Not a gleaming computer cubicle in Bangalore or a telecommunications center in the Philippines but a vision of manufacturing hell, where manhole covers for New York City's Department of Environmental Protection are made by low-paid workers whose lives depend on a combination of strength, focus and luck."
Teske, he said. "What's the difference between the foundry in India and ours? We're in the 21st century."
